New Castle Fire Still A Mystery
New Castle, Pennsylvania (United States):
KDKA's Ross Guidotti reports that investigators still don’t know the cause of the fire that killed a four year-old boy in New Castle on Monday.
Evan Prioletti of New Castle, was killed despite his mother's efforts to pull him out of their burning house. He was found near a second-floor bedroom window after firefighters got the blaze under control after 1pm Monday.
He was rushed to a Jameson Health System care center, where he died a short time later.
“Everybody is real broken-hearted,” said neighbor Gigi Malizia. “It turned our whole world around.”
Authorities said the boy's mother, Amy, was trying to pull him out of a window but she lost her grip on him as she held onto another 4-year-old brother.
She remains in UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh with a back injury and burns.
“She was carrying the one baby, the three month-old in one arm and the three year-old in the other arm,” Gordon Reese said. “She dropped the three month-old as she was getting out and she couldn’t get back in.”
The other boy was taken to Jameson for his injuries.
The Prioletti’s neighbors are trying to raise money for the family. The neighborhood children are selling drinks to raise money.
