Warren County, Tennessee(US):
Hundreds of middle Tennesseans are applying for a job that pays nearly $20 an hour with no idea of what they would be doing for the money. A local company wants to hire dozens of employees, but the type of work remains a mystery.
Warren County executive Kenneth Rogers is taking applications for jobs that start out paying $18.91 an hour. A company just outside of Warren County contacted Rogers asking him to collect applications for 40 jobs now and 200 more later.
The only catch is that Rogers can't reveal the company name to keep it from being bombarded with applications. Rogers said the company was serious about him keeping it a secret. “It could lead to them not accepting any applications from Warren County,” Rogers explained what might happen if he told what the job was. The company targeted Warren County because of the recent layoffs at the Carrier and AO Smith plants. Rogers only posted a notice in the McMinnville newspaper last week and already has a large stack of applications from people who don’t know what to expect.
