Series of Murders in Delhi Hotels, Police Install CCTVs to Keep a Watch

After a series of murders in Paharganj, most of them still unsolved, the Delhi Police have decided to install CCTVs in the area.Around 15 cameras will be installed at all the entry, exit points of Paharganj, a popular tourist haunt where over 200 hotels and guest houses are located. The cameras will be instaled in two months and the Paharganj Police Station will be the main monitoring room.
But footage can also be viewed from any remote location like the Central Police Control Room, officers said.
The police also plan to install similar cameras in Chandni Chowk. Karol Bagh is already under the CCTV eye. The trafic police too are planning to install cameras at key junctions to observe traffic.But in Paharganj, the focus will be on visitors to hotels and restaurants and maintaining law and order, a senior officer said. The police believe the move will help solve murders like that of a man who was beheaded in a hotel more that a week ago. The victim's identity is still a mystery. So is that of his companion, who police believe walked out of the hotel carrying his head in a suitcase.
