Boy, 12, charged with murdering family

A 12-year-old boy has been accused of killing his mother and younger brother in their apartment near Washington.
Katrina Powe, 31, and nine-year-old Mystery Hillian were found beaten and stabbed to death yesterday morning in the family's home.
Police said they had found a metal bar used for locking a car steering wheel believed to have been used in the killings.
The 12-year-old appeared via CCTV in juvenile court in District Heights, Maryland, on two charges of murder.
The victims were found dead at 11am yesterday after police were called. The boy was arrested and interviewed by detectives. Prosecutors said his father was on his way to Maryland from North Carolina.
Neighbours said the boy was known for having a temper. "If he got into an argument or something, like with other kids, he would kind of explode, and go off," said one.
