Pune, Maharashtra (India):
Three days after the arrest of two suspects in the murder of 31-year-old Infosys executive Vikram Potdar, their ‘‘mystery friend’’ appeared before a magistrate and is believed to have issued a statement that has considerably strengthened the prosecution’s case against the duo — Vicky Manthora and his step-brother Kevin Dias.
Summoned by the Pune police, the girl who identified herself as Varsha, reached Pune along with her mother on Tuesday and recorded her statement in camera before the court of a Judicial Magistrate (First Class) on Wednesday.
Later, she told this correspondent that she was ‘‘not afraid as I have not done anything wrong’’. Yet, she did not deny the fact that she knew one of the suspects, Vicky, but ‘‘only as a friend of her boyfriend’’.
Vicky and Kevin were picked up by the Pune police from near her house at Aaspur village in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan on Sunday night (March 26) when they had gone there apparently to seek her help.
