Gateway, Florida (US):
As his parents lay dead, 2-year-old Luke Andrews said "mommy" to a 911 operator. But the tape recording of the call doesn't shed light on whether Luke dialed the number after his parents were killed.
Lee County sheriff's deputies released copies of the 911 tape Friday, a month after the bodies of Steven and Michelle Andrews were found in their Gateway home in southeast Lee county.
Could Luke have dialed 911?Sheriff's officials initially stood firm that the 2-year-old had made the call. Then they backed off that assertion.Luke was on the phone with the 911 operator when deputy Tracie Gaydash, who lives in Gateway, knocked on the door at 12221 Eagle Pointe Circle shortly after 7 a.m. on Dec. 27.Luke can be heard talking on at least two occasions, but all the words aren't clear on the tape.
At one point, he says "mommy." And a sheriff's incident log of the call states that a young child "can be heard saying mama over and over and calling for mom."Fred Cooper, 27, of Bonita Springs was arrested Jan. 11 in connection with the killings, and a grand jury is expected to consider charges against him this week.
If Luke didn't dial the phone, the people who could have are the killer or a dying parent.
